Some of the areas I mention here may not be well known, but will be hugely enjoyable walking, sometimes near wild animals, a completely different experience than seeing them from the constraints of a car. Other places may highlight the contrast between forest and desert, for example Mt Ngiro and Suguta Valley. Kenya has spectacular contrast, not really found anywhere else in east Africa.
Wildhorizon safaris are for the traveller who likes to get outdoors, camp in remote areas, and walk. Whether you want to walk and drive in the Masai Mara area, Loita hills, Chyulu hills, or visit Mt Ngiro, the Ndoto Mountains, rugged Suguta valley and Lake Turkana in the north, we can organise walking with camel, donkey, or 4x4 vehicle backup to all areas.
Safaris are custom made to suit various clients' requirements and are guided by myself John Bisley, an experienced safari guide with great knowledge on the African bush. Wildhorizons aim for moderate comfort, good sized tents and camp beds, chairs in camp and washing facilities. However our main emphasis is on where we camp, not so much on how; always looking for places that we can camp alone and away from the beaten track.
It's a wonderful experience to be out in the wilderness, hearing animals nearby with the stars never allowing total darkness. We use local guides, which creates employment and gives intimate knowledge and insight of each area visited. Security is of the utmost importance, in camp and on foot; this is always a major consideration and having local guides assists with the community that we are travelling through.
We have made sample itineraries which have a mix of driving and walking. Some require donkeys or camels to carry our food and water, some, especially near National Parks; will use a 4x4 vehicle to move the camp. A typical safari with 4 clients will have a crew of 4. This includes myself as guide, a safari cook, a camp attendant and a driver to move the vehicle to the next camping area. Then in areas where we walk I employ 2 or more locals to guide and communicate with the local community.
